Hi, I'm Amy! I'd like to get to know each other better, so here we go.

I was born in Arlington, Tx and grew up in the Metroplex. I'm the oldest of 4, 2 sisters and a brother. As a teenager my family relocated to the teeny, tiny town of Hico, Tx. It's practically microscopic and I can't think of a better place to raise a child. Speaking of, I'm a single mother of a 13 year old Lego loving boy named Lane. I'm pretty obsessed with him.

I also have an awesome boyfriend and 3 fur babies, Ginger, Sampson and Jackson. They are as funny and smart as they are cute!

Together we love to watch movies, go fishing, read books, have family game night and oh yeah, and we're total foodies! Every weekend consists of whipping up something completely indulgent and ridiculous!

I'm addicted to dark chocolate, Orange is the New Black, young adult novels, laughing so hard it hurts, learning something new everyday and of course anything and everything photography related!

I am unfunded. That means nobody helped/gave me anything to start/grow my business. I worked for 5 years as a waitress saving every penny (there weren't many, remember, single mom here) to educate myself and acquire profession grade equipment. It was hard. I mean really, really hard. At one point the camera I had was worth more than the car I had. A few years later I had no car at all. If I sold my gear and bought a car it would have meant giving up the career I worked so long and hard for. SPOILER ALERT: I'm still here! I'm just stubborn like that.

When I was a little girl I had this irrational fear of forgetting things (which is not so irrational now that I'm older). I saw so much beauty around me and I wanted to memorize everything and not forget a single detail. So when I grew into a teenager and discovered photography it really touched my soul. What I do is so important to me and I hope it's important to you also. I don't see myself as a photographer but more of a preserver of history, seeker of inner beauty, confidence and self esteem booster, memory maker, story teller.

How To Speed Up Lightroom Workflow using Proxy Files | For Photographers | Art & Soul Photography

I super duper love Lightroom! But what I don't love is slow import times and waiting on pictures to load. With a little trial and error I finally figured out a way to speed up the process and the best part is it is free. Just download Abobe DNG Converter to get started. Here's how it goes:
Open Dng converter and select the memory card your files are on.

I saved to a new location named Proxy.

Next you want to change you preferences to these settings. The pixel count doesn't have to be exact but this is what works well for me. Beware when viewing these files in windows photo viewer the dimensions shown will be incorrect, no idea why.

Here's what it should look like. Go ahead and convert the images.

When they're done, import the proxy folder into Lightroom. Do not rename the files! Save that for the last step before exporting.

While that's going on import your original dng's from the memory card into the dng converter and assign a new folder for them.

This time you'll want to change the preferences to look like this. Export to the new folder.

Here's how it should look before you convert.

Meanwhile edit your proxies. Loading and processing times are almost non existent! No waiting around!!

Once everything is done importing and you're done editing you will right click on the proxy folder and update the folder location.

Update to the Full Sized Dng folder you previously created.

After that you'll notice the little warning signs on the photos. Click to bring up the dialog box and select overwrite setting.

That's it and edits have been applied! Go ahead and export your full res images!

Here is the final image size. Pretty cool huh?

**Please back up your originals first until you get the process down. If you make a mistake you could accidentally downsize your originals. Ask me how I know :) If you know of a way to improve upon this process please let me know. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it saves you time!

Today I have a real treat for you and it comes in the form of a 4 day-old baby named Laiken.

It was not that long ago that I photographed Lucas and Krysanne for their one year anniversary photos. I can't believe it's already been almost a year since that session. I remember when I first met Krys and Lu, they were young and in college and obviously perfect for each other. And even more so now :)

Because our last photo shoot went so brilliantly, I was thrilled when they contacted me to schedule photos with their adorable little Laiken. And to make it even more special, Laiken's Great Aunt Linda made him a quilt that we used at their in home session. I adore those special little touches!

Anyway, I am beyond honored that they asked me to work with them again and to photograph Laiken. As you can see from the photographs below, he is an ultra sweetheart and was a joy to work with. Here are a few of my favs!

Hey folks! Today I'd like to invite you in on a conversation between my beautiful friend Jessica and myself. Let's jump right in!

Jessica: All through my college education I worked full-time, often juggling multiple jobs. I’m also married and have a little girl. All my time and energy has been spent working on my degrees for the betterment of my family. When I’m not doing schoolwork or hanging out with my family, I like to write and garden.

Amy: How was your photo session experience?

Jessica: My photo shoot was a little different because I worked with two photographers, Amy and Eric Stephen of EDS Photography. It was nice to have so much attention and have two creative minds working together to ensure beautiful photos! I have love for art and photography, and I already know Amy’s style really well. She has a special quality of making people feel comfortable around her, she’s fantastic!

Amy: (Blushes) Why did you choose the Tarleton campus for your session?

Jessica: I have a creative streak and I love to try new things, but I really wanted to go with the traditional location of using my college campus for my graduation pictures for a number of reasons. Tarleton is big on tradition has been a huge part of my life for the past 10 years. I have obtained two degrees from the university and spent hundreds of hours within its gates. It’s the epitome of Texas heart and soul. It’s the place where I made my dreams come true. Not to mention the campus is beautiful! I have always thought so and now I have images to remember all the reasons I love the campus.

Amy : What are your plans for after college graduation?

J essica: I will graduate with my degree in counseling psychology. I want to help people. Throughout my time with Tarleton I have spent a lot of time teaching and interning with undergraduate students. I really hope to continue my career with Tarleton and make a difference through education and relating to people.

Amy: What was your biggest fear or worry about the photo shoot?

Jessica: This shoot occurred at a really crazy time in my life. I’ve been working really hard for a long time and I was still stressing about deadlines and job applications. I was afraid my photos would show my worries. Luckily when I’m working with Amy we never stop laughing and she put me at ease. I feel like the photos were exactly what I was going for.

And now I'd like to introduce Frankie, Jessica's husband. She doesn't know it yet but he has something he wanted to add to the conversation.

Frankie: One of the things I love and respect about Jess is that once her mind is made up about something she's going to make it happen. It may take longer than she'd like, but I've never seen her not accomplish what she's set out to do. She always tries harder where others may have given up, and even when she's surrounded by negativity she stays strong. I've always felt she was going to be special from day one. I rarely get that sort of feeling about a person and I feel it very strongly within her. I see her grow and learn everyday and I'm certain that's what is going to make her excel at whatever she wants to do in life. I'm very proud and blessed to be a part of her life and see her goals being met and dreams coming true through all her hard work!

Matt and Kelsey's Engagement Session | Granbury, Tx Photographer | Art & Soul Photography

Hello, blog readers!

I recently photographed Kelsey and Matt! This soon-to-be wedded couple will be getting married on October 18^th 2014.

I always ask about the proposal. This is what Kelsey had to say, “Matt and I have a 5 month old named Makynlee. On Tuesday, April 29, 2014 I dropped her off at daycare and went to work. I got an e-mail that morning that said we would be having an employee meeting at 4pm in the board room. 4:00 is the time I usually get off work so I was pretty bummed. As I’m walking into the board room for the meeting, I see a room full of my family and friends and Matt on one knee holding our daughter. She was wearing a onesie that said “Mommy, Will you marry my daddy?” and the engagement ring was tied to a ribbon in the corner of the outfit. Of course, I said yes! “

I love that story!

When asked what she is most excited about Kelsey said, “I’m excited about everything!! Planning the wedding is so much fun! Stressful at times, but mostly fun! It’s going to be so perfect. The venue is beautiful, my dress is gorgeous, and I get to marry the man of my dreams! What’s not to love?”

Speaking of the venue, it’s at Rambling Oaks Ranch in Granbury, TX. It’s an old airplane hangar that’s been converted into a giant barn. The reception will be inside the barn and the ceremony will be outside on the lawn. The landscaping is breathtaking.

I know it's going to be a gorgeous wedding (because I stalked her Pinterest wedding board! ;)

Future wedding details aside, let's get to the present: Matt and Kelsey's engagement session! These two are real naturals in front of the camera. Their good looks, fabulous outfit choice, a sublime location and their genuine love for each other made this photo shoot a breeze!

Hi again, everyone!

I have a hard time facing the fact that little Landon is already a whole year old. But you know what 1-year-old birthdays mean? Cake. And smashing cakes, of course!

Before I get to the fun photos I know you came here for, I have to share pictures from Landon's previous session. I cannot believe how fast the time has gone!

Landon's mom, Ashley, says he just loves playing outside with the dogs, speaking gibberish, showing off his brand new walking skills and looking at books. Ashley wanted a fun, happy one year session with A Very Hungry Catepillar theme. To prepare for the session she made sure Landon had a good nap, a snack and a clean diaper. Planning around nap time is extremely important. It doesn't matter how good the light is if baby isn't happy ;) I asked Ashley what advice she has for parents for their sessions. "Relax, don’t worry if your baby won’t “smash” the cake or doesn’t smile, the pictures still look amazing!" I agree.

Whew! One thing's for certain: Hosting a mini-session is always a treat! Despite all the hard work that goes into planning, it always pays off in the end.

My most recent mini session day took place in early November at a friends private property in Hico, Tx . All the children were very cooperative and Santa even showed up!

As you can see from the photos below, we all had a great time. I couldn't have asked for a better turnout or experience! And it makes me excited for my next mini-session, too!

Hi, everyone!

Oh how I just adore the family I'm blogging about today. I'm lucky enough to say I've been photographing the youngest member of the family since she was born and I finally got my hands (and lens) on the entire family! I truly can't believe how much the children have grown and changed since I first met them.

I've known Brittany since she was a teenager. She was friends with my little sis in high school and was one of the few people I trusted to babysit my then infant son. Now she's all grown up with a beautiful family of her own! So when she called me to schedule a smash the cake session I said, "Of course! And while we're at it let's capture the whole family together as well." And I'm so glad we did because we made some awesome pictures that day that will be cherished for a lifetime.

And as for the day of the shoot, I had a blast and learned that when cows see people, they expect food!

Hey guys!

Today I have a real treat for you, which comes in the form of siblings and cousins. You can tell from the pictures that these kiddos are a super sweet, well-mannered bunch.

Sherry came to me and told me she wanted to surprise her parents with a canvas of all the grandkids for Christmas. Best Idea ever! She was a little worried that her oldest nephew wouldn't be into but he really brought it! When we were done he said "Wow, that wasn't bad at all!" Well gosh, I try :)

We met up not even half a block from my home. A place I'd driven by thousands of times but never noticed its potential until recently. I just love the tree stumps for sitting on!

I always ask,"How did he pop the question?" Kayla says they were driving and when they reached their destination he went around to open her door and when he did he was on one knee with a ring in his hand. All together now, awwwww. I love that story!

Welcome back!

Today I want you to meet Kayla. Bold, honest and fun are the words that come to mind when I think about this young woman.

Kayla is a senior at Tarleton State University and will graduate with her Bachelor of Science in Animal Production in May.

This session was so much fun! (I know I say that a lot but they always are!) Kayla brought high energy, an open mind and cute outfits. I love the bold color choices and it really makes the pictures pop!

Welcome back!

The mission of this blog post is to show off the adorable Ella. I actually photographed Ella 6 ago for her newborn session. Check out the pictures here.

Can you believe how big this little lady has gotten since then? I had to blink a few times to make sure I was seeing things clearly! That's a lot of change for such a short period! Isn't she a doll? I'm so glad her mom brought her to me for A Page Session.

Hi everyone!

Let me stop for a second to tell you that I am seriously the luckiest photographer in the world. My clients are always so fabulous to work with. That's true of my session with the Sanchez family, too!

I met up with them in November and the weather was perfect for photo-making. Such yummy, golden light! While the weather was fine, it was the Sanchez family that made this shoot such a success.

The Sanchez family consists of Frankie, Jessica and Ezra. I've dubbed them Frezica. This picture represents them so well because Ezra is so calm and cooperative and her parents are total goof balls!

As you can see from the comments above and the photos below, this family is not only photogenic, but also a close-knit group who clearly love spending time together. They are blessed to have each other.

Ladies and gentlemen, today I have the distinct pleasure of introducing you to baby Ella, who's officially 6 days new!

I think we can all agree: Her chubby cheeks should earn her a spot on the cover of every baby magazine in the nation! Seriously, I wanted to pinch them!

And as you can see from the pictures below, Ella and I had one of the best sessions together. She was a dream and slept the entire time.

I can’t wait to see how baby Ella grows and changes in the upcoming months! I get to shoot her adorable self again at her 6 month session. I love my job!
